The silence in relation to the recent stunning discovery of the Gospel of Judas (National Geographic), which was written in the third or fourth century A.D., and known prior to A.D. 180 is particularly deafening.
It is apparent that this Earth-shattering find can't be adopted (and trusted) because it will result in catastrophic change for the psyche of the following and/or related groups of Christianity. It¢¯¿½¯¿½s a Gospel (good news) that cannot be integrated into the current perception or basic belief system because its integration will (might) cause the destruction of the foundation, the current perception maintained by the teachers of the scriptures and the Bible, as it relates to Judas Iscariot.
What can be said about it is that it provides a further insight into historical Jesus. The prophet Daniel accurately predicted the year (hundreds of years in advance) in which the Messiah (Jesus of Nazareth) would be ministering. The Old Testament lists what this Messiah would do, and when (prophecy).
As a student of the scriptures, it was within Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ knowledge that all prophecies that related to His arrival in this precise point in time would include the ride on the donkey. It also would further include His sacrifice to the world.
It makes perfect sense that the all-knowing God would in fact know in advance of the events to unfold. Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ selection of Judas was not by chance, because Judas was in fact His most trusted disciple. For example, Judas was entrusted with the treasury of Jesus¢¯¿½¯¿½ ministry. The Gospel of Judas supports this completely.
Of a prophecy about Jesus: Psalms 22:16: ¢¯¿½¯¿½Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.¢¯¿½¯¿½ :17: ¢¯¿½¯¿½I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.¢¯¿½¯¿½ Jesus knew they were coming for him, but those who participated in his crucifixion did not know they were in fact fulfilling a prophecy. Who else but God would know of the preordained crucifixion? And how could so many be coaxed into participating, when most were not fully versed in Daniel¢¯¿½¯¿½s prophesy?
Judas should be loved rather than hated. The evidence is in.
In general usage, a ¢¯¿½¯¿½prophet¢¯¿½¯¿½ is someone who can foretell the future. The prophets of the Bible often made predictions, which confirmed their authority when the predictions came true.
Which brings me that ever-illuminating revelation made by God to validate His words. "I am the LORD [Hebrew = "YHWH"]; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you" (Isaiah. 42:8-9). For the words of a prophet to be truly words of God, they must be true and accurate predictions.
Those predictions must be of the future, not history; they must not be of a practically guaranteed event sure to happen (i.e.: there will be traffic jams in major cities around lunch time); must not be a prediction of something to happen, rendered true by the prophet making the prediction, and neither in the life time of prophet¢¯¿½¯¿½s life; must not be predictions already made (and known) elsewhere (i.e.: Revelation: End of Times); must not be about an event like of End of Times (not here yet) and not about what will happen to a person(s) after death; must not be vague or obscure.
Rather, the predictions must be specific with: well ahead of the time of the predicted event; involve human deeds in history carried out by people who are either not aware that they are fulfilling the prediction, or the circumstances of the fulfillment must be almost totally outside of the predictor's personal control.
The predictions of people's deeds must have been given in fairly specific detail, with recognizable identities and/or names of people (like "Pharaoh" or "King Ahab") and/or places involved (like Syria, Israel, Rome or Mecca), and perhaps also including a fairly specific and clear description of the length of time (e.g. the number of years, like "70 years") involved until the fulfillment.
And (of course) the prediction must be accurately fulfilled --because if it is not accurate or it is not fulfilled when the time passes, then it is clearly not prophecy from God, because it is false, and thus the prophet is also false.
The Bible (the 66-book Judeo-Christian Scriptures) contains some 300 accurate prophecies (as a prophesy is described above), and there is no other collection, which can match it. The Koran does not include a single prophecy, which can meet the test.
Prophet Muhammad
Muhammad was a trader who made several journeys to Syria, where he met
and conversed with Christians.
Hired by a rich widow Khadija (she owned the equivalent of a transport company) to extend a new caravan trade route between Mecca and Syria, Muhammad later managed the business; and later married her. Muhammad was 25 years old and Khadija may have been as old as 40 at the time (Ref #2) when he obtained his financial security.
The Prophet was unable to discern
some truths within Judeo-Christian Scriptures and had his own work refused at
Medina by the theologians of his time.
In a cave outside Mecca, it is told that the Prophet Muhammad either felt he had a call to duty
from God, or that he had an encounter with the archangel Gabriel.
Archangel Gabriel comes as the bearer of good tidings and as the
comforter and helper of men and is revered as such by Jews and Christians,
which Muhammad would have known.
Military Aggression &
Forceful Conversions
After armed aggression against Mecca in 627 A.D. (there were several battles), a judge (Sa'ad ibn Mua'dh) appointed by the Prophet decreed all male members of the tribe be killed and the women and children enslaved. That was the end of the Jews of Medina.
The armed aggression of Islam began to spread from there. In 630 Mecca fell, in 634 Syria is targeted, from 635 for 7 years invade and defeat the Persian Empire, in 642 conquered Egypt; by 705 India in the East and Spain (711-718) in the West; Tangiers and Morocco in 707. Only King Pelayo (Christian) of the Kingdom of Asturias managed to defeat the Muslim ravenous expanse into Northwest Spain at Covadonga. In 730 Azerbaijan and Armenia stymied the northward Islamic advance by Khazars (Jewish-Turkic); in 732 the Franks under Charles Martel defeated the rapacious advancing Muslims.
In response to continued unprovoked attacks by Seljuk Turks and Muslims, in 1096-1099 the first crusades began. Discussions about relations with Muslims often begin with the crusades without mention of the prior violent history.
The Koran
The Koran explicitly states that all
Muslims will go to hell in Sura 19:71-72: Allah promises no one will escape
Hell in "a fixed ordinance". And that, only those Muslims who obeyed
Allah, will be rescued from the burning fires of Hell (perhaps, after burning
for a period, depending on their sins).
Perplexing is the statement or ordinance which clearly states, ¢¯¿½¯¿½no one
will escape Hell¢¯¿½¯¿½.
¢¯¿½¯¿½For a good tree does not bear bad
fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own
fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a
bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth
good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil.
For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks¢¯¿½¯¿½, (Luke 6:39-45).
Interestingly the Koran teaches Muslims that man always commits sin against himself and that sin cannot affect Allah. Since there is no ¢¯¿½¯¿½original sin¢¯¿½¯¿½ in the Koran, a Muslim therefore does not need redemption (exception below).
Man¢¯¿½¯¿½s will to determine his own destiny (instead of submitting to the will of Allah) is a Muslim¢¯¿½¯¿½s greatest sin; hence the tremendous divide which is sure to unleash constant clashes with any civilization with differing dogma. It is not reasonable to believe that all men and women on Earth will submit so willingly without question.
The exception where redemption is required is in the case of
non-belief, where repentance is required and always accepted by Allah.
Non-believers or Infidels are therefore required to repent and submit to the will of Allah. In no way though, does a Muslim escape hell; though an Infidel can redeem himself (as a Christian) and avoid hell.
The Koran further does not accept that Jesus was the Son of God, though Islam accepts Jesus as a prophet. This completely irrational distinction illustrates how one can discover the truth about a prophet. A prophet is one who speaks the word of God, and is validated with accurate predictions of the future, which only God knows. If a true prophet, proven as such as Jesus, extols he is the Messiah, the prophecies of Daniel fulfilled, how can another prophet, (600 years later), claim that Jesus was not the Son of God?
If Jesus is not the Son of God, was
not born of the virgin; then Jesus is a false prophet according to Islam. Importantly, the Koran does not yet
have a single prophecy come to fruition to validate its origins as the word of
God.
The presence of God is not in question and, the prophet Jesus is not in
question; verily then, He spoke the truth. What you can conclude about the Prophet Mohammad should be obvious.
¢¯¿½¯¿½For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known." (Luke 12:1-2)
Note: Allah is used solely for the God as in the Koran; God solely as for the God everywhere else.
